    We were very exited to be in attendance at the 63rd Annual Conference of Metallurgists, which was held in Halifax this year!

    Keep an eye out for the 2024 Conference Proceedings including Influence of Trace Gas Contaminants on High Temperature Oxidation of IN718 Superalloy Assessed via GCMS Coupled Thermal Gravimetry, presented by Eric Moreau and Brazing of Grade 5 Titanium with Pure Copper Foil by Transient Liquid Phase Bonding (TLPB), presented by Shannon Clemens.


  • Clemens Thesis Defense

    Congratulations to Shannon Clemens on the successful defense of her Master’s thesis Direct Powder Roll Compaction of α- β Titanium Alloys with Al, V, and Fe on July 25th 2022. Shannon will be continuing as a Research Engineer with the HTTAL.

    We are very excited to welcome Parisa Fathi to the group! She joined the HTTAL as a Research Associate in November of 2021.


  • Moreau Thesis Defense

    Congratulations to Eric Moreau on his successful thesis defense titled “Determining the Mechanisms Governing Transient Liquid Phase Bonding of Nickel-based Superalloys using Boron Containing Filler Metals” this past April! We are excited to continue working with Eric as he has accepted a Post Doctoral Fellow position at Dalhousie.


  • Rayner Thesis Defense

    Congratulations to Addison Rayner, who has successfully defended his PhD Thesis, titled Supersolidus Liquid Phase Sintering and Grain Growth Activation in a Metal Injection Molded Nickel-base Superalloy on April 2nd 2020! We are happy to continue working with Addison as he has accepted a Post Doctoral Fellow position here at Dalhousie!


  • Tadgell Thesis Defense

    Congratulations to Colin Tadgell for successfully defending his PhD thesis entitled “Examining the Mechanisms and Kinetics of Transient Liquid Phase Bonding of Titanium Alloys Using Copper and Nickel Filler Metals” on October 31st, 2019.

    Colin has accepted a fellowship position offered by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science at Hokkaido University in Sapporo, Japan under the supervision of Dr. Ichizo Yagi.

  • MacIsaac Thesis Defence

    Congratulations to Clare MacIsaac for successfully defending her MASc thesis entitled “Development of a Novel Boron free Filler Metal for Transient Liquid Phase Bonding of Ni base superalloys” on December 2nd, 2019.
    Clare has accepted a Process Engineer position in Advanced Operations at Stryker in Burnaby, BC.

  • Chapman Thesis Defense

    Congratulations to Joel Chapman for successfully defending his MASc thesis entitled “Determining the Influence of Surface Preparation on Transient Liquid Phase Bonding of Inconel 718/BNi-2” on October 3rd, 2019.

    Joel has accepted a Junior Asset Integrity Engineer position at Antea Canada Inc. in Montreal, QC.

  • Thermec 2018

    Members of the HTTAL recently attended Thermec 2018 at the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie in Paris, France. Thermec is an international conference on processing and manufacturing of advanced materials.

    Julian O’Flynn presented on “Investigation of heat treatment of metal injection moulded Inconel 718 using differential scanning calorimetry”.

    Catherine Whitman presented her invited presentation “Method for optimizing powder selection for metal injection moulding through a determination of evolved gas during thermal de-binding and sintering using thermogravimetric-gas chromatographic-mass spectrometric methods”.

    PhD students Eric Moreau, Colin Tadgell, and Addison Rayner along with Masters students Joel Chapman, and Clare MacIsaac presented posters on their respective projects.
